Common Issues and Things to Expect

Flying Ants:

If you notice swarmers (ants with wings), you can be sure you have had ants for quite a while. Most species take 3-5 years for their colonies to be strong enough to produce swarmers. The swarm can be overwhelming as they flood your home by the hundreds, but don’t panic. They won’t hurt you.

Things to know

  • Ants can swarm even if the rest of the Ants in the colony have already been destroyed.
  • Residual and Preventive Pesticides are limited for swarmer control, as they take days to affect them.
  • You should vacuum up swarmers as you see them; aerosol sprays work too.
  • Caulking the interior cracks that ants are coming out of helps.
  • Flying ants will come in waves for a few weeks after they hatch out from the nest.
  • After a few weeks, the swarming ants will stop. A Larger nest may take additional time.

Sometimes, swarming ants can be confused with termites. It’s essential to correctly identify an ant, as termite treatment is much more costly and takes a different approach. Your pest control technician can help determine the pest and provide suitable options, or you may text photos to our business line at (810)410-8563

Dead Ants everywhere:

Sometimes, after a treatment, hundreds of dead ants are found over the next few days. This can be normal as large colonies start to die. Ant colonies have different worker castes, and colonies are usually much larger than many people expect, as they only see the foraging ants as they search for food.
